Bisons impress at track and field championships

The University of Manitoba played host to the 2022 Canada West track and field championships this past weekend. The meet was a success for the Bisons — the women’s team impressed and the men’s team captured its first conference championship since 2009. 


Winnipeg junior hockey teams set to begin playoffs

For most Winnipeggers, spring signals the coming of warmer days and more time outside in the sun. As junior hockey leagues kick off their playoffs, many fans and players in the city will choose to spend their time in cold rinks watching the province’s best battle for a championship.


Bison athletes garner all-star recognition

On March 3, the University of Manitoba men’s basketball team had its season cut short by the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat in the first round of the Canada West basketball playoff tournament. Although the early elimination was disappointing, the announcement that Bison teammates James Wagner and Mason Kraus had been awarded for their exemplary play was a small consolation. 



Bisons’ basketball playoff aspirations cut short

The University of Manitoba Bisons basketball teams participated in the Canada West basketball playoff tournament this weekend. Unfortunately, both teams were ousted early, with the men’s team eliminated in the first round and the women’s team getting knocked out in the second. 


Huskies sweep Bisons

After going unbeaten against the Huskies all year, the University of Manitoba Bisons’ season ended prematurely as the women’s hockey team faced off against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a Canada West quarterfinal matchup. The Huskies upset the herd by winning two straight games to secure the best of three series and move on to the Canada West semifinals.


Men’s volleyball prepares for playoffs

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team was in action this past weekend with a difficult clash against its provincial rivals, the Brandon university Bobcats. The Bobcats didn’t go easy on the Bisons, sweeping both games of its weekend series. This moved the herd’s record to seven wins and 11 losses on the Canada West regular season.


Women’s volleyball goes 1-1 with Bobcats

The University of Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball team split a two-game series against the Brandon University (BU) Bobcats this weekend. BU won on Friday night, while the Bisons returned the favour Saturday in its final home game of the season. 


Bisons track and field team stands out

It has been a memorable February so far for the Bisons track and field team. Starting the month with the Jim Daly Bisons Classic 1.0 at the James Daly Fieldhouse, many Bisons performed very well in this event.
