The best of Bisons men’s basketball

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team made a historic run in 2015-16, culminating in the team’s first-ever appearance at the Canada West Final Four. Below are the top 10 moments, plays, and memories from the season.

Shoot your shot

With the 2015-16 publication year and my time at the Manitoban both coming to a close, now seems as good a time as any to…

From the Olympics to overtime hero

From time to time, the CIS is blessed with the presence of international stars in women’s hockey. In 2011, Canadian heroine Hayley Wickenheiser kicked off her CIS career with Calgary, while Russia’s Iya Gavrilova also joined the Dinos three years ago. This season, Venla Hovi joined the University of Manitoba Bisons from Finland.

Bisons’ historic run comes to an end in Calgary

The loss, coupled with a Thompson Rivers victory over the CIS nationals hosting UBC Thunderbirds earlier that same evening, meant that the Bisons’ chances of making it to the big dance were officially eliminated by the end of day one.

Questions and Anders

The Manitoban caught up with Wyatt Anders to get his thoughts on what the post-season may have in store for the herd, starting on March 3.

Making a statement

Manitoba’s 15-win campaign was good enough for third place in the conference, and the Bisons will now host the Fraser Valley Cascades next weekend in a quarterfinal matchup at Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Brothers act

It’s not often that you get the opportunity to play football on the same team as your older sibling – especially when the latter is four years older. For Des Catellier, however, that rare occasion will occur in 2016 as he joins his older brother Luc on the Bisons football team.
