Getting to know your Bisons track and field team

The University of Manitoba Bisons track and field team has made strides over the past few seasons and with a strong roster for both the women and men beginning to come into form, the sky is the limit. Below are the stories of a handful of Bison athletes as they aim for big things in 2016.

The Stony Mountain sensation

Stony Mountain is a small community 16 kilometres north of Winnipeg with a population of approximately 1,700 people. It’s home to NHL Hall of Famer Babe Pratt – a six-foot-three defenseman who applied his trade in the NHL in the 1930s and 40s. Stony Mountain is also where 21-year-old Canada West rookie phenom Brett Stovin honed his gifts as a hockey player.

Bisons outlast #7 ranked UBC 66-64

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team made a huge statement on Saturday night at Investor’s Group Athletic Centre, knocking off top dog UBC in emphatic fashion 66-64.

Bisons fall in OT to Victoria

Victoria Vikes forward Grant Sitton will likely be in the University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball teams nightmares, after dropping a game high 28 points – including nine from beyond the arc, as well as 11 rebounds to lead his squad past the visiting Bisons 85-77 in OT.

Questions and Anders

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team is riding high heading into the second half of the year. Fresh off their first Wesmen Classic holiday tournament win since 1991 and riding a four-game win streak from before the break, there’s plenty to get excited about.

Half-time report

Heading into the holiday break, this team deserves to be included in the CIS Top 10 conversation.
