Storylines and schedules

The following schedule indicates all of the Bison games and events that are happening in September. Season passes for all Bison home games start at $25 for students and staff and are available at the Answers booth and online.

The first golf tournaments of this academic year were highly anticipated as co-coaches Garth Goodbrandson and Derek Ingram returned from the Canada Games with new recruits Lindsay Stewart and Ryan Pitzel. Team Manitoba’s male golf team finished fourth overall and Team Manitoba’s female golf team finished sixth overall at the games. Ryan Pitzel placed eighth in the individual male category and Lindsay Stewart placed 15th in the individual female category. The 2009 Bison golf team consists of 12 men and eight women.

The Bison football team lost their season opener against the Regina Rams with a score of 10-28 and also lost their second road game to the Simon Fraser Clan with a score of 7-41. The team captains were recently named and the promising list looks as follows: Matt Henry (fourth-year running back), Nathan Friesen ( fifth-year quarterback), Ryan Karhut (fifth-year offensive lineman), Eddie Steele (third-year defensive lineman), Wyatt Jacobi (third-year defensive lineman), Teague Sherman (second-year defensive back), and Will Sheils (fifth-year full back). All home and away football games are broadcast on 101.5 UMFM, so there is no excuse for missing out on the action.

The opening games of the soccer season were victorious for the Bisons this past weekend. They beat the Lethbridge Pronghorns with a score of 6-2 and the Calgary Dinos with a score of 1-0. Captains were also announced and Desiree Scott (fifth-year attacker/midfielder) was chosen as captain and Michelle Kliment (third-year defender) as assistant captain. This is Scott’s third season as team captain and Kliment’s second season as assistant captain.
