European breakdown

We are at the halfway mark of most of the seasons in European soccer and there are some interesting storylines developing. The Manitoban highlights some of the biggest stories.

The best of Bisons soccer

The 2015 women’s soccer season was quite memorable. Below are the Manitoban’s top 10 stories and moments from the pitch.

Season-ending shutout

When the final whistle blew in Manitoba’s playoff opener at Grant MacEwan, they accepted a bittersweet fate – a 2-0 loss to the home side, putting an end to one of the most exciting Bisons soccer seasons in recent memory.

Graca grinds it out

Experienced, composed, and with a clever trick or two up her sleeve, the University of Manitoba Bisons’ Megan Graca knows her way around a CIS pitch. This season, the midfield maestro leads the team with five assists in 12 appearances and is set to conclude a memorable university career.

A fitting finale

Selina Speranza scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Regina on Saturday and then scored again in a 2-1 loss against Saskatchewan on Sunday, as Manitoba concluded their regular season at home with three points.

The winger is the last Bison to score in the regular season, having also tallied their première goal against Thompson Rivers back in September.

Halftime report

The University of Manitoba Bisons soccer and football teams have impressed in the first half of the season. Below is a look at how both…

Finders, keepers

Debuting in the CIS this past season, goalkeepers Logan Grzenda and Madison Wilford are well on their way to leaving a lasting imprint on Manitoba soccer as well.

Another weekend, another turnaround

The University of Manitoba Bisons women’s soccer team is certainly developing a good way of responding to deficits. Following a tough loss to the Calgary Dinos on Saturday, the Bisons hammered the Lethbridge Pronghorns 3-0 on Sunday.

A league of her own

University of Manitoba midfielder Amanda Wong is only in her second year, yet her astounding ability to control soccer matches has spectators and the Bisons taking notice.
