The Duckworth Challenge: looking back

With the Duckworth Challenge reaching its 25th year and the back half of the 2015-16 edition just under two weeks away, the Manitoban decided to take a look back at some past Bisons MVPs in their individual sports against the Wesmen and where they are now.


Manitoba sweeps Regina, wins battle on the glass

Saturday afternoons rematch between the University of Manitoba Bisons and Regina Cougars saw Manitoba’s starting five put on a show as each starter scored a minimum of 12 points. Justus Alleyn led the way with 13 overall in a game where the herd never took their foot off the gas pedal, dominating from start to finish in a 77-63 victory.


Bisons upend Cougars 89-82

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team made a huge statement on Friday night, shutting down a potent Regina Cougars offence.


Bisons bounce back against Lethbridge, win 102-94

Six of Manitoba’s eight players scored in double digits on Saturday night to help the Bisons manage a split against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, 102-94. It was the first time the defensive-minded herd had scored over 100 points in a game this season, shooting 48.6 percent from the field overall.



Getting to know your Bisons track and field team

The University of Manitoba Bisons track and field team has made strides over the past few seasons and with a strong roster for both the women and men beginning to come into form, the sky is the limit. Below are the stories of a handful of Bison athletes as they aim for big things in 2016.


The Stony Mountain sensation

Stony Mountain is a small community 16 kilometres north of Winnipeg with a population of approximately 1,700 people. It’s home to NHL Hall of Famer Babe Pratt – a six-foot-three defenseman who applied his trade in the NHL in the 1930s and 40s. Stony Mountain is also where 21-year-old Canada West rookie phenom Brett Stovin honed his gifts as a hockey player.



Bisons outlast #7 ranked UBC 66-64

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team made a huge statement on Saturday night at Investor’s Group Athletic Centre, knocking off top dog UBC in emphatic fashion 66-64.
