The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team made a huge statement on Friday night at Investor’s Group Athletic Centre, snapping the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen’s six game conference winning streak and increasing their own streak to four. Manitoba never trailed in the contest, winning 79-65 and also claimed the 25th annual Duckworth Challenge in the process. It was the sixth time in the last seven years that the challenge was won by the Bisons.

Apparently, the Winnipeg Jets love college athletes. Three former NCAA superstars are currently plying their trade for the Jets on a full-time basis, while many more college stars await their chance in Winnipeg. In their collection of prospects, 10 currently represent the NCAA and are headlined by the University of Michigan’s Kyle Connor.

With the Duckworth Challenge reaching its 25th year and the back half of the 2015-16 edition just under two weeks away, the Manitoban decided to take a look back at some past Bisons MVPs in their individual sports against the Wesmen and where they are now.

On Friday night, the University of Manitoba Bisons women’s volleyball team played out a 3-1 loss (17-25, 20-25, 26-24, 19-25) to the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack. The Bisons see their losing streak extend to six games, with a 2-15 conference record. With the win, the Wolfpack extend their winning streak to three games and they sit four points back of fourth placed UBC Okanagan.
