Gender parity is not enough in new cabinet

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently unveiled his new cabinet that will head back to Ottawa, Ont. to work on challenges like housing, mental health, climate change, reconciliation and Canada’s pandemic recovery, to mention a few. The 38-member executive body maintained gender parity by naming women to major departments such as finance, defence and foreign affairs. But Trudeau’s selections have been met with scrutiny due to the lack of ethnic representation of racialized groups, especially women of colour.


CRB, wage, rent subsidies replaced with reduced benefits

The federal government is scaling down a number of COVID-19 financial programs that were set to expire last week, including the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB). The programs will be replaced with reduced benefits, although due to parliamentary delays, these benefits may not be accessible until late November.


Bisons soccer attempts late playoff push

In a last-ditch effort to make the Canada West playoffs, the Bisons women’s soccer team won both of its final games of the season, beating the University of Winnipeg Wesmen 1-0 and 3-1. Unfortunately, the team’s hopes also relied on a University of Regina Cougars loss against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday, and although the herd secured its last two wins of the season, a Cougars victory laid to rest any playoff plans.

Former Bison is first U-Sports female football player
