Fear of crime highest in Manitoba

A national poll from the Environics’ 2011 Focus Canada survey showed that Manitobans rank highest in the country for fear of crime, reported the Winnipeg Free Press.

The province was also the only one in the country to show a significant increase in the number of people who believe that crime is getting worse. Sixty nine per cent of those polled said they believe crime is getting worse, versus 63 per cent in 2010, despite Manitoba being one of the provinces to see a decline in the homicide rate.

This is significantly higher than the national average of people who think crime is getting worse, which sits at 46 per cent, down from 52 per cent last year.
