The UBC Thunderbirds gained some revenge in Saturday’s men’s basketball rematch, using a deep bench to defeat Manitoba 76-66 at Investors Group Athletic Centre.

UBC dictated the pace from the opening tipoff, and never trailed at any point. The visitors received well-distributed scoring with starters Phil Jalalpoor, Jordan Jensen-Whyte, and Conor Morgan all registering at least 10 points. Their reserves also played well, specifically forward Will Ondrik who had five rebounds, and guard Taylor Browne who had six of his eight points in the fourth quarter.

The Bisons received offence in spurts, but couldn’t sustain any form of run. They cut the lead to four points on a few different occasions however every time they gained momentum, the T-Birds would answer right back.

Justus Alleyn was Manitoba’s leading scorer yet again with 18 points, but eight of those came in the fourth quarter, as UBC was able to contain dynamic guards Alleyn and AJ Basi. Keith Omoerah finished with a double double for the home side as well, but the Thunderbirds still won the rebounding battle as eight players had at least one board.

With the win, UBC advances to 9-3 while Manitoba falls to 8-4. Up next for the herd is a tilt with Lethbridge on the road this coming weekend.
