ASBC Grocery Support Program

Applications for the ASBC Grocery Support Program are open until Sept. 25 at 11:59 p.m. The program will be able to provide 10 faculty of arts students with grocery store gift cards to support students going through financial hardship. Interested parties can check out the ASBC Instagram page @um.asbc or reach out to [email protected] for questions.

Free transit for youth in Winnipeg update

Over 21,000 Manitoban students have claimed their free transit passes through a pilot program launched this fall by Premier Wab Kinew, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt and Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard. Winnipeg Police services, Winnipeg Transit Inspectors and Community Safety Officers will be more present on routes serving schools.

Scott Gillingham, Mayor of Winnipeg, described the initiative as “a practical way to make life easier and more affordable for families while helping more young people become regular transit users.” He added, “as the pilot rolls out, we’ll track ridership and service impacts closely and work with the province to make sure the program works well for riders and is sustainable over the long term.”

Medical First Responder Program — fall 2026 info session

The U of M’s Medical First Responder team is hosting an info session for people interested in the program on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. in 206 Tier. Attendees will be able to hear from senior medical first aid responders, take part in a basic first aid activity and enjoy free pizza. Students can register through the program’s Instagram page @sja_div281.

UMMSA back to school BBQ

The U of M Muslim Students’ Association is hosting their annual back to school barbecue event on Sept. 26 at King’s Park at 4 p.m. The paid event will include food, drinks, snacks and the opportunity to make friends. Students can register on the club’s Instagram page @um.msa.
