Cameron Provost has resigned from his position as UMSU vice-president finance and operations (VPFO).
Provost confirmed his resignation in a statement to the Manitoban, saying the decision followed “much deliberation.”
“My resignation was not a decision I took lightly,” Provost wrote.
He said he ultimately decided to step down after determining that he was experiencing a “poor organizational fit” and wanted to prioritize his mental health.
“I am exceptionally proud of the resilience and effort of our executive team and wish them the best with the remainder of their terms,” Provost wrote.
Provost’s resignation leaves the VPFO position vacant. The VPFO is responsible for overseeing UMSU’s financial operations and other areas of the union’s administration.
The resignation comes during the 2026–27 UMSU executive term. This marks the second executive vacancy of this term after Aiden Peters resigned as vice-president external affairs (VPEA) on Sept. 18.
The board determined by-elections will be held to fill both positions after rejecting a motion to redistribute the VPFO and VPEA responsibilities among the remaining executive team and staff for the remainder of the term.
The decision regarding the vacancies took place during a closed session of the UMSU board of directors meeting on Sept. 24.
