Putting poutine in its place

You may have noticed that, for some time, there’s been a food truck parked on campus. A welcome relief from the unrelenting mediocrity of campus food services (though I’ve yet to actually see anyone buying poutine there), the Poutine King is inarguably an asset to life on campus.

The whole point of a food truck, however, is that you can park it anywhere; the specific spot the truck currently occupies is not only inappropriate, it is offensive. The truck should be moved – perhaps more importantly, whoever told it to park there should have known better in the first place.

Mental illness has historically been a difficult topic for discussion, for such reasons as a lack of knowledge of its effects or the naive belief that it’s a rarity even in today’s society.

Looking to conquer the Canada West

After falling to Calgary in a Canada West Play-In series last February, the University of Manitoba Bisons men’s basketball team is hungry to return to the postseason this coming year. With a number of critical players from squads across the conference graduating, the parity is as high as it’s been in years, giving the herd an opportune chance to rise in the standings for 2015-16.

The homecoming

To say that Joey Nitychoruk was highly touted coming out of high school would be an extreme understatement. Along with being a significant contributor on the U17 provincial squad, the six-foot-six wingman was also named the top high school basketball player in Manitoba in the Winnipeg Sun coaches’ poll during his senior year with St. Paul’s High School in 2010-11.

Season-ending shutout

When the final whistle blew in Manitoba’s playoff opener at Grant MacEwan, they accepted a bittersweet fate – a 2-0 loss to the home side, putting an end to one of the most exciting Bisons soccer seasons in recent memory.

The Manitoba Bisons women’s hockey team is on back on track after a jittery start to the 2015-16 season. The hosts topped the Calgary Dinos last weekend to improve their record to .500, producing 3-2 and 5-0 wins, respectively.

Herd stampedes over Dinos

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey team traveled to Calgary this weekend to play a two-game set against the Dinos. They swept the matchup, winning 3-1 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.

T-Birds win fight for home field advantage

The University of Manitoba Bisons football team entered UBC for the final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon, hoping to leapfrog over their opponent in the standings and grab the number two seed in the conference. Ultimately, though, it was the Thunderbirds who came out on top 24-10, advancing to 6-2 and securing their first home playoff game since 2011-12.

Wild weekend for Bison volleyball

This weekend saw both the Bisons men’s and women’s volleyball teams play a two game series against the Grant MacEwan Griffins. The men stayed undefeated while the women split their two games, getting their first win of the year in the process.
