UMGPS launches graduate student writing groups
The U of M Graduate and Postdoctoral Society is partnering with the Academic Learning Centre to launch Graduate Student Writing Groups, an initiative aimed at supporting graduate students with their academic writing.
The groups, facilitated by Academic Learning Centre instructors Miriam Unruh and Nick Schroeder, will meet in person on select Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the UMGPS Events Space, with virtual sessions held Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
UMGPS will provide space, food and beverages, and assist with communication and student recruitment.
U of M Dairy Club hosts ice cream week
The U of M Dairy Club is hosting ice cream week from Oct. 5 to 9 in collaboration with UMParks, UM 5SA and the U of M Anthropology Students’ Association.
Students can grab ice cream at the following events:
Oct. 5: UMParks x Dairy Club, 1 to 4 p.m., Agriculture Atrium
Oct. 6: UM 5SA x Dairy Club, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Agriculture Atrium
Oct. 7: UM Anthropology x Dairy Club, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Agriculture Atrium
Oct. 9: Dairy Club, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Engineering Atrium
Socktober donation drive
UMSU is partnering up with United Way Winnipeg to collect new socks for community members in need across Winnipeg. Donations will be collected from Oct. 1 to 31 in the REIA lounge at 183 Helen Glass.
UM Book Society Icebreaker
UM Book Society is back with their fall icebreaker for a cozy night of fun. The event is happening on Oct. 9 in the ASBC lounge where attendees can expect food, games, books and making new friends. Interested parties can RSVP on the club’s Instagram page @umbooksociety.
Run for sight
InSight U of M is organizing a 2 km charity/run walk on Oct. 16 at King’s Park along with a community clean up. The registration fee is $15 and all the proceeds will be donated to Misericordia’s Eye Care Centre of Excellence. A $25 Specsavers gift card will be awarded to the first 25 people to register for the event.
