Costumes: It’s always fun to escape reality and be someone else for a while.
Excuse for childish behaviour: Halloween brings out the child in all of us. Playing dress-up was always lots of fun as kids and continues to be true — find a kid to tag along with and go trick-or-treating (you might even get some sympathy candy).
Halloween music: Hearing the festive songs that are only played during this time of year gets you in the spirit. Although, by the end of October you may be saying, “Play anything but ‘the Monster Mash!’”
Halloween movies: A great excuse to have a scary movie marathon!
Halloween parties: This encompasses much of what has already been listed — candy, costumes, and music!
Can stay up late: Remember in grade 1 when you were allowed to stay up an hour past your bed time — on a school night — to eat candy. Doesn’t get better than that!
Spying: Halloween is the one night a year when you can find out who lives in each house. After years of doing this, you figure out which families give out full-size chocolate bars. Make sure you visit them before they run out (maybe even twice if they have faulty memories).
A certain sense of freedom: No one knows who you are, so you can do whatever you want. I’m assuming you wouldn’t normally run yelling and screaming in the streets, but that witch mask you’re sporting makes you feel invincible.
Pumpkin carving: From scooping the guts out and carving creative designs to toasting the seeds and lighting that first candle, pumpkin carving is always an enjoyable seasonal activity!
