UMSU.ca hacked by group with claim of supporting oppressed Muslims
The University of Manitoba Student’s Union (UMSU) was hacked on Nov. 15, causing the site to be disabled and visitors being automatically redirected to the UMSU Facebook page.
The hackers claimed that they invaded the site, not for the purpose of sabotage, but to show “support [for] our Muslim brothers oppressed politically and to show you the real message of Islam.”
The name “SaHrAwI_HaCkEr” was listed under the heading, “By The Name Of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.”
On their Facebook page, UMSU said “We’re in the middle of doing an update, it will be back online soon!”
If the site was hacked, UMSU would let us know.
Honesty is at the heart of UMSU. The open communication between the members and the executive is what makes our student union strong.
If UMSU says they are just doing an update, we should believe them.
