Warm Winnipeg weather welcomes winos, weirdos and whippersnappers to the great outdoors once again.
It’s patio season in the Prairies and it’s also time to treat yourself. Here are my top five patio spots for upscale drinks at semi-upscale prices.
Thermëa – 775 Crescent Drive
Thermëa boasts three outdoor pools, aromatherapy saunas, and an award-winning restaurant. They now also have the most unique beer garden in Winnipeg dubbed “The Beach” for its sandy ground and lounging beds. Thermëa’s beer gardens offer a wide selection of craft beers and copious shade shrouded in large trees. A new online booking system that ensures guests can reserve a spot without worrying about capacity limits. Thermëa has also lifted their whisper policy in almost all outdoor spaces to allow their guests to connect.
La Roca – 155 Smith
La Roca features a wooden interior with traditional Mexican décor, two patios and a seemingly endless selection of tequila. Don’t worry if you can’t choose one, the bartenders know their stuff. Chow down on traditional Mexican cuisine like tacos or burritos or try something a little different like deep fried avocado. Carry on through the night as the restaurant transforms itself into a vibrant nightclub with two DJs and plenty of room to party. Find a table inside or dance the night away on the patio.
The Roost – 651 Corydon
Since its inception in 2015,The Roost remains one of the hippest bars in the city. Elsa Taylor, Caiden Bircham and Isaac Hedenstierna opened The Roost when they were only 21years old. They offer unique cocktails and mocktails crafted by head bartenderTaylor, along with gourmet shareable plates. The patio is bigger than the small indoor seating space available, with an intimate feel.
Amsterdam Tea Room – 211 Bannatyne Ave
Amsterdam Tea Room brings Dutch flavours and a wide variety of teas to Winnipeg. While their hot boozy teas are a hit during winter, they also have iced boozy teas for hotter summer days. Amsterdam Tea Room also offers high quality classic cocktails along with small plates of Dutch cuisine. Their patio is in the heart of the Exchange District, close to other trendy Winnipeg bars and venues, but intimate to lounge in for hours.
Carbone Coal Fired Pizza – Several locations
Carbone has collaborated with celebrity chef Pete Evans for their “Taste of Summer Pizza Series.” Evans designed Carbone’s summer menu, offering a healthy, lighter summery pizzas. The bartenders are experienced and attentive, with a wide range of modern twists on classic cocktails. Both the pizzas and cocktails use locally sourced ingredients from Manitoba farmers. Their locations provide large patios for a perfect post-work watering hole.
