It was a rough road trip to Saskatchewan for the Bison women’s soccer team, who found themselves ranked among the CIS top ten for the first time since 2009 after starting the season 2-0.

The Bisons played the U of Regina Cougars on Sept. 15 and the U of Saskatchewan Huskies on Sept. 16, and were on the losing side of both matches.

In their game against the Cougars, both sides managed to get three shots on net, but it was the Cougars who netted the lone goal of the game. Jayde McFee scored the game-winning goal just before halftime, and the Cougars managed to hang on for a 1-0 victory that boosted them to 2-0 on the season.

The following day, the Bisons were defeated by the Huskies as their record dropped to 2-2 two weeks into the Canada West season. Saskatchewan goaltender Lisa Evans stopped six shots on goal to preserve the shut out as two first-half goals stood up in a 2-0 loss for the Bisons.

The losses may reflect a drop off the CIS top ten for Manitoba, as they’re currently eighth in the Canada West standings. With eight games remaining in the season, there are still plenty of games left to get back in the win column.

The Bisons return home for their next two games. They play Trinity Western University on Sept. 22 at 11 a.m., and then play UBC on Sept. 23 at Noon. Both games are played at University of Manitoba Outdoor Turf Fields – West Field.
