All good things must come to an end. The Pinkslips will be saying farewell to their fans this weekend with one last hurrah in the form of a dirty, crusty punk show.
“Lysa Molcan (drummer) came to Winnipeg to [go to the] University of Winnipeg a few years ago,” said bassist/singer Jenny Wuckert. “She has now decided to move back home to B.C. so she can spend some time with her family and eventually teach overseas. Although we are very proud of her and encourage her to take this step in her career, it is sad to see her go! We wish her all the best and will continue to show her love and support.”
What may come as a surprise when listening to Hate Songs, the Pinkslips’ only studio record, is that behind this “we don’t give a shit” punk exterior stands three petite women who, while on stage, somewhat sheepishly exchange banter between songs and will politely tell you to fuck right off.
“I would say we have all had a very positive experience in this band,” said Wuckert. “It is unreal to think that we started as three ladies casually jamming in my garage in February, 2010 [ . . . ] We have accomplished so much and met so many great people along the way.”
Hosted by War on Music records, this all-female punk trio will be joined on their last stand by a long line-up including: 1971, the Blackout Brigade, TERRORIST, and the Bad Nerves. All for only $7, now that’s a deal.
What else can fans expect from the Pinkslips’ farewell show?
“Glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.”
Catch the Pinkslips’ last show on Feb. 9 at the Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre.
