Basketball

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams took a loss in the first of their two-game series against Calgary this past weekend, the women’s team dropping a 93-79 decision before the men’s team fell by a score of 93-81.

The following night, the men’s team was able to push Calgary into overtime but still lost the decision 100-91. Unfortunately, the second night of competition didn’t end any better for the women’s team as the Bison lost their second game in as many days, 77-75.

Hockey

The men’s hockey team lost the first of their back-to-back games against Calgary this past weekend by a score of 6-2. The following night, the Bisons were able to keep the score much closer but still lost by a score of 3-2.

The women’s team also lost their first game of the weekend to Calgary 2-1 (SO) but followed the loss with a 2-0 victory the next day. Bison goaltender Leiette Klassen earned the shutout for Manitoba.

Prior to Friday’s game, Manitoba also participated in a shootout with Calgary to decide the result of a controversial game originally played Nov. 12, 2010. Calgary won the shootout, completing a 3-2 victory from nearly three months prior.

Volleyball

The men’s volleyball team suffered a tough loss Friday night, falling to the Calgary Dinos 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 17-25). The following night, Feb. 5, the Bisons took the battle to the Dinos but the result was the same, a hard fought 3-0 (14-25, 24-26, 24-26) loss.

The women’s volleyball team won their first of back-to-back home games last weekend by a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23). Manitoba almost made it a two game sweep, the second night’s match tied at two sets apiece, but Calgary was able to pull ahead in the fifth and final set to secure the 3-2 (14-25, 21-25, 25-19, 28-26, 11-15) victory.
